It’s easy for me to get caught up in the busyness of life. Maybe you’re the same? I don’t mean to, but it just kind of happens. Work picks up, social events happen, there’s that book you need to read, and, in my weaker moments, social media feeds to scroll through. Life is busy which is one of the reasons I chose Surrender as my word for 2019.
One of the noticings that I have had so far this year is actually something that has plagued me for a long time. It’s one of the biggest challenges that I face as a parent and I’m willing to guess it’s one of yours as well. It’s being present. Being present in each moment. Giving my full attention to the person or thing that is right in front of me and not being distracted by the things that do not matter in that moment.
This year I have really noticed how quickly my priorities can become misaligned with where I want to spend my energy and focus. At this time of my life, my kids are one of my biggest priorities and it’s almost amazing to watch how quickly that priority gets pushed down the list so that less-important priorities can take over my attention. It takes a certain level of intentionality to notice when this happens, and it’s one of the things I’ve really been working on this year.
All this to say, I made a video about it this past weekend that I think you’ll enjoy.
